New growth appears fresh lime green before gradually darkening to rich, inky black, adding a striking contrast as the plant grows.

Grown in New Zealand by Gellerts, this 14cm plant is perfect for desks, shelves, side tables, offices and bedrooms. It tolerates low light and can go weeks without water, making it one of the easiest indoor plants to keep looking good.

Care guide

• Light: Bright, indirect light keeps the colour deepest; tolerates low light. Avoid harsh direct sun.
• Water: Water only when the soil is completely dry, roughly every 2–4 weeks. Its underground rhizomes store water, so overwatering is the main thing to avoid.
• Humidity: Happy in normal household humidity.
• Feeding: Feed every 1–2 months in spring and summer with a diluted liquid indoor plant fertiliser.
• Temperature: Prefers 15–26°C. Keep away from cold draughts.
• Tip: Wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to keep them glossy.
